What am I doing wrong?

I've stacked 10 subs of comet Lovejoy in Maxim (DSLR RAW's)

The resultant image looks OK but a bit of a red tinge, however when I try and save it as a fit, png or jpeg and open it the background is bright red and the comet yellow instead of green.

What am I doing wrong?

Dss works with raw ... and outputs FITS :-)

I haven't had any luck doing that. I'm just a beginner. Seems to me that you can benefit from linear if the source is linear, but not if it's not. Trying to output FITS from DSLR RAW has consistently led to burned out looking , weird results for me. I went back to TIFF.
