for a short extension tube unscrew the lens from your barlow, this will give you enough focus range

but remember you will not be able to shoot birds 5 feet away from you!

thanks bogdog I can now focus on my feeders perfectly. Just wondering if the light would be better with the macro extensions as I am back down to 1.25 rather than 2". What do you think is it worth doing.

Very grateful to you and NGC404 , I can start taking shots now :)

another question I have is when the camera is attached to the scope it is ver back heavy on the tripod, is there a way to even out the loading/?

greame

Not realy, a 2" extension will help a little with the focusser sag but the only real cure is maybe by supporting the scope and camera on a dovetail bar that can then be fixed to a triopd.

Make a home made counter weight bar to attach to the tripod to even the balance out at the front if you are using a tripod.

There are several that have been made for the AZ3 tripod.

This is the one I made. Perhaps similar could be made for your tripod.
