Hi Darth Vader and welcome to the forum. I think you are referring to comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy which will be making its nearest approach on January 7th and will be visible to the naked eye near the constellation of Orion for all of us who live in the northern hemisphere. Good idea to see it as it won't be returning for another 8,000 years.

Clear skies for the arrival of your new scope and for witnessing this great comet too.

Hi and welcome to S G L

You will really enjoy your new scope, and your 2 children will too, show them the Moon

and Jupiter, they will be hooked as well as you.
