it is frustrating when the 'light fights crime' or 'light equals safety' lines are peddled with no evidence to back them up. It's an education issue, if we want to change it all we can do is talk to people and point out the problems of light pollution (waste of energy, cost, unnecessary COemission, possible disruption of sleep cycles and impact on health). The good news is that more councils seem to be receptive to these issues these days.

Europe has signed up for some significant reductions of CO2 emissions, so that could be good news on the light pollution front.
