Image organising / processing - Uhm Picasa?

Recently (see below) I've been making an effort to sort out image files.

During "research", I came across the [to me] rather excellent Picasa 3!

It seems to anticipate (does) pretty much everything I was hoping. :)

But it seems commonly understood that this stuff is moving to "Google+

images"... and / or Picasa might not be around for longterm future?  :o

Anyone else invested in Picasa for image management? Do we worry?

Have you thought about / now use alternative (free / budget) software?

For what it's worth, I'm not awfully bothered about "Google images".

No "evil empire" concern, just I'm finding Picasa great for my *offline*

organisation of images - I sense Flikr will suffice for a subset of them!

Picasa is rather good for for making videos of my images too...

Wryly noting that Youtube login is initially via Goole+ now?  :p

P.S. Much as I appreciate the facilities afforded by "linked flat files"

- Central to Flikr (Wordpress!), I still crave hierachical storage...
