Aimless outburst of astro-effervescence

Recommended Posts

I managed my first image using a guiding setup last night. Went straight for 5 minutes against a moon filled sky and lo and behold, the tightest stars achieved to date. Seeing as it is difficult to convey this sense of excitement and joy to my 'impressed by my reaction rather than the achievement' spouse, I am mindlessly boasting on this forum.

Used an ST80 from an SGL-er (thanks trudie) bolted to a dovetail on my ED80 and a rather ancient Meade DSI Pro version 1 (rescued from a dusty grave in an observatory cupboard) as a guide scope. Using a 1st generation Macbook Pro and a second hand Canon 450D added to the cobbled together feel of the whole setup.

I posted a more serious thread asking about improvements, so apologies for double posting, but this one is all about saying thanks for all the advice on this forum, as I would be years away from this stage without it.

My word, the cables....

Good on you.

I remember when I first got my mount to guide, it was in my lounge following a star through the window.

I was so chuffed with myself and I was so excited.

Now days it is the last thing after set up just before I set off capture and go to bed.

Must say I still love the sound of it ticking along with the occasional nudge.

It reminds me of when my cat purrs :)
