Sunday Morning Sun

What a glorious Sunday morning we have in Northampton, beautifully clear blue skies and no wind

The sun is pretty quiet today compared to recent events but is still looking wonderful.

There are a few small prominences dotted about the limb, the more notable being the group of 3 toward the 12 O'clock position and a strange sideways angled prom around the 5 O'clock position.

The sunspots are a little small today but there are quite a few of them huddled together, they can be separated quite nicely when zoomed or when using a higher power eyepiece, some excellent detail available.

The surface is particularly pleasing today with lots of granulation and filaments floating around, I think the almost perfect clear conditions are helping.

Its very strange watching the detail change before your eyes giving a very animated experience.

We also have a Coronal hole pointing our way. smack in the centre

Thanks for the excellent report. It's raining up here but makes no difference as the telescopes are packed away for a while whilst I move; hopefully to somewhere sunnier! Hope to be back in action in the autumn.

Afternoon update

There are 2 proms around the 1 O'clock position and they have joined to form a complete circle, its looking ready to pop

Another set in the 3 O'clock position are also starting to combine forces  Unfortunately the gathering clouds look like they may interrupt proceedings.
