Hi, i`m thinking of making a pier for my Skywatcher 127 makcass so I can get rid of the tripod. Can anyone tell me what size is the bolt that fixes the cradle to the tripod please

. Many thanks Pete

Firstly take out the bolt.

1. If you have a thread gauge and a pair of dial or vernier calipers. Measure the outside diameter of the threaded part and test the fit of the threads with the thread gauge.

2. Take the bolt to a hardware shop and ask for a nut to suit said bolt.

Jeremy.

Pete if you do not have available any engineering tools, just measure across the diameter of the threaded end of the bolt in millimetres, it is likely to be M8 or M10 as the majority of threads used by Skywatcher are metric, HTH :)

Yup - sounds about right.  In the USA they still use UNC which is the same as Whitworth in that particular size.  It is also very close to 6mm as 1/4" is 6.35mm - to close to see without the proper measuring tools.  All very confusing!
