ether823
Hi, i`m thinking of making a pier for my Skywatcher 127 makcass so I can get rid of the tripod. Can anyone tell me what size is the bolt that fixes the cradle to the tripod please. Many thanks Pete

Measure the outside diameter of the threaded part and test the fit of the threads with the thread gauge.2. Take the bolt to a hardware shop and ask for a nut to suit said bolt.Jeremy. glowjet
Pete if you do not have available any engineering tools, just measure across the diameter of the threaded end of the bolt in millimetres, it is likely to be M8 or M10 as the majority of threads used by Skywatcher are metric, HTH
Jim Steele
My CG5, similar to the Eq5 is M10 if that helps? Could you take the central mounting bolt to a hardware shops and try to find a nut that fits it?
ether823
Hi guys, Its a M6 but the threads on M6 bolts are to fine. The threads are coarse. Pete
ether823
Could it be 1/4" whitworth
Davey-T
Probably UNC, stuff designed for USA where they refuse to go metric Dave
ether823
I believe its 1/4" UNC (camera thread) I tried the bolt on my camera and it fits perfect. Pete
Bizibilder
Yup - sounds about right. In the USA they still use UNC which is the same as Whitworth in that particular size. It is also very close to 6mm as 1/4" is 6.35mm - to close to see without the proper measuring tools. All very confusing!
