Setting Circle for 200 dobson

Recommended Posts

I don't know if you've come across this posting? I could send you the PDF for the setting circle if you PM me. The natural size is 68cm if I recall correctly, but my printer was able to scale it nicely for a SW 200p, 250px and lately a 300p Dob.

I have a fixed bolt (it passes down through the rocker box base and bolts through the ground board) and I attached my azimuth setting circle to that with a 'pointer' attached to the rocker box base and this works a treat.

Sent from my iPhone from somewhere dark .....

With this bloke you can choose any size setting circles you like, also inclination, masks etc. I think there might be a small fee depending on what type of registration you choose. I once did a free one ages ago without even registering, it came out well but with feint watermark in it.

I note that the two Wixey copies mentioned above are both long delivery (intercontinental). This is the one I bought with quick delivery within the UK http://www.machine-dro.co.uk/wixey-digital-angle-gauge-with-magnetic-base.html I'm very satisfied with it's performance. It would be great if someone came out with a red LED backlit version.

Bearing in mind that the FOV of your 200p with the 25mm SW 'standard' eyepiece is just over a degree, I found that it was important to aim for the most accurate lining up of the setting circle and the indicator line. For my 300p (third time lucky!) I even offset the 'dial' so that it was in line with my head position when at the eyepiece so there is no significant parallax.

Since this photo was taken I added the pointer using a masonry pin as used with brass hooks to hang pictures on a plaster wall.
