skywatcher tripod

Recommended Posts

Looking at the images of the scope on the web, it does look like the tripod does have extensions to it but still looks to be on the short side.  Putting the scope on to a table is going to make everything a bit wobbly and difficult to manage, so you may want to think about replacing the tripod instead.

I haven't the faintest idea of what the mounting is like for your tripod, so this may be something you need to take up with your local astronomy group (Link).  They should be able to point you in the right direction and it would also give you some like-minded people to talk to!

The EQ3-2, tripod plus mount head fully extended will go to just over 5 feet high at the centre axis.

So to look at Zenith through a refractor or Mak/Cass you will likely need to crouch.

or,

obtain an Observing Stool and sit at the telescope.

With a Newtonian reflector this is not really an issue as we stand at the other end of the OTA and thus do not extend the legs much more than half way.

The other point is that fully extended is a bit flimsy for windage vibrations so sitting might be a better option.
