Recommended brand for sturdy pocket torch?

Apologies in advance for yet another torch thread.

I need a red torch, and I don't really want to buy a red torch. I've read the various threads about nail varnish, sweet wrappers, red cellophane etc, and I'd like to get a stubby LED torch and attach red cellophane to it using rubber bands, because then I can attach layers until I have it how I like it.

Problem is, there are millions of pocket torches out there. While the pound shop ones look great, they last all of a week or so before they start flickering and stop working, and I imagine the similarly- priced ones online will do the same. So I'd like to buy a stubby torch that will actually last. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Maglite, they do red filters for them too.

That Gerber one's a tad expensive (although very good I'm sure). Might have a look at some Maglites I think.

My favourite torch so far is an LED lenser. The little P5 packs quite a punch. Again, not a cheap option, but I don't regret a penny of it.

Get one for the front of a bicycle, you will need about 1w as a red filter removes a lot of the light.

If you need red filter material try a hobby craft store they usually have some red acetate of assorted shades hidden somewhere.

I got a set of these LED torches and I have been really impressed with them - superb value for money and for a recent star party, I simply wrapped the front with a red cherry liqueur chocolate wrapper! Highly recommended.

Another thing I considered was some kind of hanging camping red light that I could maybe hang from the mount (as I'll have mains power available in my back yard). Does anyone else do this?

Hanging a red light outside might not be your best idea! Then again....

I have not changed the batts in my mini Maglite for over 2 years to give you an inkling.

I like the look of the mini maglites, but I think I would prefer a torch with an on/off button at the back rather than twist on/off.
