My SPOD 17-5-14

I had a play with the 120mm lunt mod today in between the clouds. Tomorrow is expected to be very sunny so I felt the need to fine tune the modded solar scope, ready for some special ME time.

I had a look at the few decent proms around the limb, but the seeing was not stable enough to get a good focus, so I stayed with the surface while I tuned up the scope.

Its surprising what you find amongst all the boiling plasma. Here is my Solar Picture of the Day. A Solar Budgie.

And the Mono version.

Congrats on your SPOD, Allan, lovely work

I do love the swirly detail you see around some of the spots

I am hoping for some clear this morning but some stealth cloud has appeared out of nowhere  Hopefully it will shift soon!

Thanks Paolo. The modded scope is a Celestron 120mm XLT frac with the focuser removed and a Lunt60T sat behind it in a 2 scope configuration. There is a sub aperture ERF placed inside the 120mm scope to reduce the heat loading on the Lunt etalon.

This is the same setup, but using a 150mm frac. I changed back to the 120mm because it performs better with the rubbish seeing conditions I usually have. Also the 120mm is a bit easier to handle.
