M42 and Running Man Nebula (with added data)

Recommended Posts

Having had little opportunity to image so far this year, I had to think carefully before spending another evening collecting more data for my recent M42 shot. However, I am glad that I did. The additional data seems to have improved things a little. I was also able to be a bit more discriminating and ditch some of the dodgy frames. The posted imaged was shot with my 150mm f/5 Newtonian using a QHY8 and a MPCC which is still not positioned just right ;-) I stacked 88 240s subs in Nebulosity and processed using AIP4WIN v2.1.0. I need to reprocess once I have a master flat frame which I think will yield further improvement (there is vignetting going on that spoils the image).

That's an excellent M42 Dave, and the Running Man is very clear. Well done.

As you say a master flat should cure the vignetting.

The QHY8 camera certainly seems to be a top performer, I've recently seen a lot of impressive images with this camera
