DSLR & Webcam imaging

I've just been watching youtube videos and am now more confused than ever... Please can someone explain or point me to a guide as regards the difference between Dark / Bias / Flat frames and how to achieve these with both a DSLR (Nikon D5000) and a webcam? Thanks in advance

Darks - Same exposure & ISO as your subs but lens cap on
Bias - highest exposure but same ISO Lens cap on

Flats - white / light (Tshirt) over the telescope
 

not sure why you need to take them with a web cam as normally they are used on planetary are high FPS video rates, not long exposures

Just to add to Oldpink's post:

Darks, take them immediately after your lights because they are temperature dependent as far as the sensor is concerned

Bias, shortest exposure you can do on your camera e.g., 1/4000th second

Flats, as old pink says; just get your histogram peak about halfway

This applies to your DSLR to assist with processing of long exposure light frames.

load DSS and then look at the help file, there's a section explains how to take the extra frames needed.....it on the first page near the bottom highlighted in Mauve
