Northern Lights...

Recommended Posts

The Zodical Light I believe to be a similar phenomena and perhaps more of a Southern Hemisphere occurrence, sunlight reflected by interplanetary dust mostly along the line of the Zodiac and Ecliptic plane, best seen after twilight.

No, the zodiacal lights can be seen over the entire globe. You need a true dark site with no LP at the western/eastern horizon (the zodiacal lights are fainter than the milkyway), a moonless night and the ecliptic must cross the horizon at an high angle (October or March should be good for the UK). I have seen the zodiacal light at Värmland Starparty in Sweden and I just came back from a astrotrip to Teneriff where one of our observing sites had so much zodiacal light over La Palma that it looked like light pollution.
