NGC 2359 Thors Helmet

This one was a panick one it was hovering over the tree tops here , i thought it would drop below , so i binned it 2x2 , infact it hung on longer than i expected ,mangaed 16 x5 min subs for this one ,

I'd say that represents a good night, nice object, fascinating shape, well captured and nicely processed.

You can certainly make out that helmet shape. Nice image. I don't want to distract, but what is binning 2x2 ?

Rog, Very nice. This one is on my short list to do. But, I haven't had a chance to get the kit out in a long while. It will be a tough one for my un-modded 350 XT. But, I at least want to give it a go.

I thought about this object last night too but it seemed from C du C that it was going to be too small for my 80ED. You proved me wrong with an excellent image, well done!

Binning 2 X 2 means that you set up your CCD camera in such a way that instead of making use of it's full resolution, say 1392 x 1040, you comBINE adjacent pixels in block of four to be become 'super pixels' but the trade off is that the resolution now becomes 696 X 520. However, you get a big increase in sensitivity as you are now using 'super pixels'! Great technique for capturing more light in less time
