Vixen 16-40 X 80 BCF Giant Zoom Binoculars

Anyone know or have used this binocular?

Don't go for zooms is the received wisdom, and bar perhaps some rare and expensive suggestions, I think it is wisdom. I have used a Vixen 20x80 at night and held a Vixen 16x80 in a store in Japan (and foolishly did not buy it), and they are very nice, and surprisingly light for 80mm bins (no heavier than my 15x70 Helios Apollo HD). The type you are looking at seems to have the same housing, and most likely, objectives. Having said that, I would not go for the zoom version of these binoculars. The FOV will be narrower than regular ones, and optical performance is most likely lower

Rather spend your money on a bargepole, so you can practice not touching zoom binoculars with it.

From what i have read over the yrs here on SGL.................ZOOM bins are best avoided.
