Dark sky hols

Just been speaking to the other half about what she wants to do for a holiday and I got the reply of 'I don't mind'. In that case, dark site holiday it is then.

We tend to go on holiday after the kids go back to school in September and I suggested camping but got the reply 'It can be cold then'

What about renting a cottage? I said. 'Yeah', can do she says 'how much are they?'

So, does anyone know of any cheap cottages to rent in the Brecon Beacons for the middle of September?

Anthony,

Naw, September is usually a great month for camping as most people have holidayed up until August!  :) Nice and quiet, plus Summer usually has a last fling before Autumn creeps in.

We normally shoot off to a dark, remote campsite in early September - a good, early evening walk finished off with hot chocolate, jaffa cakes and watching the sun go down. Whilst the kids are jumping around the place in the twilight watching the stars pop into sight, set your scope up. Tired kiddies can sleep in the tent, whilst you and the others can be treated to a fabulous night under the stars. The gas stove is within reach for those warming drinks!  :)

You could try Galloway Forest in Scotland.

This would be daytime for the kids http://www.lagganoutdoor.co.uk/page500.htm

Galloway forest is the UK's 1st recognised dark sky site.

Accommodation, camping, hotels, caravans, cottages all available

Cheers but a little too far for me.

Luckily I don't have kids so I haven't got to worry about keeping them entertained during the day.

about 4/5 years ago I went to this place on holiday with the wife and kids ( when I used to have a touring caravan), Widemouth Bay Caravan Park Poundstock, Nr Bude, North Cornwall EX23 0DF - See more at: http://www.johnfowlerholidays.com/cornwall-holiday-park/widemouth-bay-caravan-park#sthash.Rrt8oW5P.dpuf

I always remember this because I had never seen so many stars in the night sky in my life before,

No personal experience myself (yet) but a good friend of mine has stayed in some remote Welsh cottages found from this place and has a lovely time at each of them:

The map search on that site is a really useful feature. You can cut down on search time and home in on the 'dark sky cottages' in seconds. At least two good ones in Mid Wales on there.

Some more 'map search' self catering  holiday sites:
