Telrad dew guard

Recommended Posts

recently bought this http://www.firstlightoptics.com/finders/dew-shield-for-telrad-finder.html  to battle dew on the telrad and had its first outing on monday night. i opted for the mirror one £25 lest just say im not impressed it doesn't hold the dew off for long. i was putting it back every time i stopped looking trough it and the mirror is utterly useless. so now i have it what to do with it to improve it? any body else have one?

I had one....about as much use as a chocolate ashtray!

Then I tried the Telrad heaters which worked great but take up alot of space inside the window so it can be a little tricky to get your head in the right spot.

Now I'm using a homemade foam dew cover, I hate it but its better than nothing. :)

I just wiped it with my finger . It's not an expensive multicoated optic or anything , just little piece of your big standard glass.

BUT it took me a while to catch on. , so used to handling anything you look through with kid gloves.

but doing that makes it look all fuzzy and it does my nut in!

Here's an old post but still relevant on how to make a coverhttp://stargazerslounge.com/topic/61552-telrad-frost-dew-cover/

HOWEVER

I downloaded the template off here and never had a problem sincehttp://www.homebuiltastronomy.com/downbino/HomeBuiltAstronomy-TelradDewShield.html

thats funny mike, i have drilled well nailed into a gas pipe thats was fun soldering it up. maplins is your best bet i think they were £0.39p each 2 would be good, 330 ohm i think 1/2 watt, i will have a look now and put the link up

http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/metal-film-06w-330-ohm-resistor-m330r

wire them in parrallel not series though, you could just use a small 9v battery and holder with a switch like this, dont no how long it will last though, i use a battery pack with control for my eps and finder, but it should last easy 20 hours

http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/1-9v-switched-battery-box-l90an

hope this helps. let me no

I found the dewshield next to useless, so I made up a small heater circuit with 330ohm resistors. The diagram is for the Rigel, but the principle is the same. I made it up then shaped it to fit, not pretty, but works a treat. If you have any probs getting the resistors pm me, they're sold by the hundred so I've got one or two left over and I'd be happy to send some on.
