If anyone is looking for a great telescope, I'm selling my NexStar 8SE. It's in great condition, Optics are immaculate and there is only some signs of use on the dovetail bar and the black rim that has faded a bit on one side. The reason that I'm selling is that I'm looking to upgrade.
I had some amazing views of planets and DSO through this scope.... it really is a performer in quite a compact package.
This scope was on a CGEM most of it life so the NexStar Alt-Az mount was hardly used.
I prefer to have this scope local pickup or I'm happy to deliver and even give a tutorial and demonstration of how to use it.. for that reason I'm targeting a buyer around Sydney Australia.
The price I'm asking is $1650AUD.
yesterday evening, I started observing the moon and sketching crater Copernicus even 15min before sunset. The contrast on the moon wasn't perfect yet, but on the other hand the contrast on the sketching paper was better - no need for LED. Copernicus with its prominent ray system is wonderfully appearing on the full moon but this time I just concentrated on the 96km crater itself:

Looking in my filed skeches, I figured out that I have visited Copernicus five years ago. Here's a comparison of the two sketches showing some changes in technique:
since i started work on my observatory there hasn't been much time for AP, but since lunar photography is done in minutes i had a go yesterday.
SW AZGTI with the Skymax127 and Sony A6300 and Baader Neodymium Moon & skyglow filter.
100 frames taken and 50% used to stack in autostackerd.
c925 and 294mc pro bin 1 with ir/uv cut filter. 2 panel mosaic best 25% of 1,000 . Had to convert to jpeg as i keep getting an error 200 when trying to upload a larger file. ( 50+ mb ) clicky for full rez.
and a few with the 385c camera with neodymium filter and mostly barlowed.
I am only a few weeks into astronomy and started off with a Celestron 9.25" Evo on the standard AZ mount. I guess with hindsight this wasn't the best place to start and also with hindsight I would have done better to have bought a GEM mount. Anyway, lesson learned and at 71 years old I have to speed up the learning process compared to younger enthusiasts I have 2 issues. 1/ Its a pain dragging the scope out into the garden and setting it up every time I think the fickled weather might be obliging. 2/ I now know that the mount I have is useless for long exposures and a wedge is fiddly to get polar aligned.
My question is, though I gather wedges are a PITA to setup etc is if I was to build or buy a pier for the backyard and use my existing mount + a wedge is this a reasonable way to go? Though it's fiddly to set the thing up once set I could leave the mount, wedge, etc covered up and would just need to drop the OTA on when I wanted to use it. Is this reasonable or am I missing something fundamental down near the bottom end of my learning curve
Any advice much appreciated and don't feel you have to spare my feelings
