Imaging with the 130pds

Im hoping to get the 130PDS out tonight on my NEQ6, its been at least 6 months since the setup was even assembled (university mostly to blame, but that's been called off now so i have no excuses :D). Currently checking over everything, except for the USB hub it seems to be in good-ish shape so hopefully I can get some test images in!

Hi everyone

First night out this year so took the oppotunity to have pretty late night and bag a few targets.
Had to sort a few minor issues but pretty happy with the nights session.

All taken with the 130PDS, HEQ5 and QHY8L
Maximum intergration time for any image was 1 hour and 300s exposures

Thank you.

Est SQ around 20-21, Class 3 Bortle. I do however have a few caravan parks and villige not too far away so can get some pollution from there until late at night when most of the lights go out.

Some really nice images above, this weather combined with the new moon is brilliant!

My first image this year is more of a test to be honest, the guide-cam incompatibility was just too bad to do guiding. (replacement is ordered ;)) I decided to do a quick half hour unguided run, to get something out of the session, and to check that the tracking and DSLR are still in good order. I'm surprised by the lack of trailing, I didn't do drift alignment, just quickly used the polar scope. Stacked & Processed in APP, I converted to B&W because the background colour noise was too strong, and there wasn't much genuine colour signal in the galaxies due to the short integration.

From looking at the stars, I suspect I need to do some collimation. It doesn't look anything bad, hopefully just the primary! 😐

49*40sec @ ISO 1600, EOS 1000D. 130P-DS on NEQ6, unguided.

Thanks for looking :)

Hi everyone

Here are two more from last nights session.
Lowers nebula, one I have had on my list for a while but not seen imaged much (now I know why, its very faint). really nedd to get a lot more data on this.
The second is the Iris Nebula.

Both had 20x300s using the QHY8L Colour CCD

Hi all

Two clusters from last night. M3 and M37.

Can't remember how many subs were useable after the wind played havoc with guiding. Probably 10 x 90 seconds.

Stacked in DSS

Quite pleased with these for such a short integration.

Hi all,

I've been thinking about cracking my 130pds out again for imaging with my asi 1600mm. Any other users of the 1600mm and this scope?

And would an adapter like this be okay for connecting the cam? I want to test the scope out before purchasing a CC again.

Okay so after battling all day with pixinsight I have managed this. It not great and there is an odd shape to my larger stars. Not sure if this is collimation or light leak. Also my monitor is rubbish so make things harder. I could spend an age picking it apart.

Please feel free to make any comments.

10 x 120s each of LRGB.

Stacked in DSS.

I have just started using a ZWO ASI 1600 with the 130 PDS. It's my first ever mono astro camera so I have lots to learn. I had a few issues with weight/tilt to start with, but I've identified the problem and have ironed things out a bit. Attached are a couple of images that were just part on my testing things out (just a few subs).

Looking forward to getting some clear skies to use the ASI 1600 properly now !

Lots of us! It's a match made in heaven 🤣

I think you will want a CC, the Skywatcher one works well when used with the two spacers that come with the camera.

Cool. As @Stub Mandrel just said I probably will just have to buy a CC again, I've realised just how bad the coma is without one. Did you require any extra spacers to get the right backfocus? Would you mind sending a picture of it?

I guess you have a few options but the SW and Baader seem the most popular, I think the SW one is a focal reducer too ? I use EFW and OAG and it defo needs spacing, I think I used about 1.5mm of delrin spacers alongside one of the standard ZWO (big) spacers that came with the camera. I can DM you some better pics and measurements tomorrow if you still need info.

Some people have criticism of the SW CC, but it needs no spacers to work with a T-adaptor and DSLR, and if used with the ASI1600 there are two spacers supplied that give the correct spacing; unlike other types it seems to be relatively insensitive to spacing anyway. Some people get reflections of bright stars, but I've found that only Sadr and Alnitak are bright enough to cause a visible 'ghost' image and was easily able to correct it.

And here are a couple of works (some in progress) from last night:

Hi. Yes. About 0.9 I think. A nice wide field with the 130 but then essential to cut the focus tube. As @Stub Mandrelmentions, there's a lot of -best ignored- misinformation surrounding it. A good choice if you can't justify the 4 element ccs.

Cheers and keep safe.

I am in the list of people who were not able to get a correct spacing with SW CC+ASI1600MM on 130PDS...
Standard ZWO rings were very close, but coma was present... With delrin spacers managed to reduce it, but not completely...

I guess, it also depends how primary is colimated... Full in or Full out and etc... Not yet figured out...
