All.

There is an ad for a 18" mirror on ebay and it states it was made in the late 60s early 70s in Brighton. There is also a picture of the original scope with the builder of it.

Does anyone know the background to this telescope?

Kind regards,

Mike.

£1200 seems alot considering its gotta be re coated and you'd be buying it without knowing anything about its optical quality?

I like the one in Nicks link though, interetsing to see what that one goes for?

given you can get a brand new Nichol Optics 18" mirror inc. secondary with HILUX coatings for £1900 delivered to UK, this seems very expensive to me. take off the secondary (£200?) and coatings (£400?) and you are at the same price.

Was on auction at £600 this morning when i looked - now has jumped to £1200 buy-it-now.

Seems a bit of a risk to spend that sort of money without seeing with it...

I looked at this earlier and wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Goodness knows what is going on with the glass underneath the residual coating, could be pitted like the moon's surface and have to be refigured!!

No idea of the optical quality, wavefront, etc. £1200 is far too much a gamble.

I posted about this scope a good year back before I bought my 16" lightbridge.I was considering one but they wanted nearly €1000 for shipping and it brought the price too close to what was available in the UK.nice looking piece of kit though
