New SW Dob 250px - prob with handle on base

Recommended Posts

I've just bought my first telescope - a Sky-Watcher Skyliner 250px. I've been assembling the base and have encountered an issue with the handle that attaches to the front board. Basically, the holes for the 2 screws don't allow the handle to be attached - they are slightly too close together and therefore I can't get both screws to insert correctly at the same time. Has anyone else come across this problem and can anyone suggest a solution? I obviously don't want to return the base.

Thanks

OrangePeely.......Hi, sorry to hear about your dilemma. I would double check again the alignment of the said holes. If satisfied there is an error (and you dont want to return the base - but phone the dealership, they still may be able to get a replacement?) then aligning the handle slightly above or below the existing holes, remark the holes by poking a pencil or kebab stick with some way of leaving a trace on the board. A small piece of tape (masking) to maybe prevent drill slippage, and re-drill  two pilot holes, to accept the screws. The handle will hide the existing holes.

I've just had to look at ours to see where the handle is ! - we are lucky and keep it assembled and with 2 of us are able to move it 'as one' using the 2 handles that go thru base to OTA.   In can see it would be a problem if not secure very secure and you need to move the base on it's own.

We would do as Charic suggests ( when I say 'we' I mean hubby whose DIY skills are better than mine)

Welcome to the firm, it's a great scope I hope you enjoy it as much as we love ours.
