Hi, i just brought my 1st proper scope last week, a Skymax 127 on a goto mount, after spending weeks looking on these forums i narrowed my choice down to the 127 or a 200 dob, i decided on the 127 due to the compact size making it easier to transport on holidays etc (i still want a 200 dob though)

Anyway im very pleased as i have just taken my 1st image of Jupiter (about 2 hours ago) after waiting days for the endless clouds to clear, im quiet pleased with the image bearing in mind i was in my back garden in North East London with the wind battering the scope.

I brought 2 used xbox 360 cams from CEX for £1.50 each (busted one in the conversion) & modded them using the info from this forum.

I stumbled my way though registax using a few tutorials on youtube. Ive tried to attach the pic to this post, not sure if i have done it right. Its a bit small and the details not great but im still trying to adapt the webcam to work with the Barlow lens.

Ive always been fascinated by the night sky & my wow moment was a couple of years ago on holiday in Majorca when i saw Saturn for the 1st time through my 60X80 spotting scope (which i use for shooting)

Ive always put off buying a "proper scope" due to the thought that you cant see much through light polluted sky's, well i proved myself wrong.

Im looking forward to exploring the sky with help from this great forum.

Thanks

Michael

Wow. That is an amazing image of Jupiter for a windy and light polluted London night. I was split on whether getting one of the really cheap webcams was worth it or whether to go for the far more expensive SPC900 model everyone recommends. You've convinced me its worth a try on the Xbox cam!

As my name suggests, I'm also based in London (alas without a proper back garden - although I do have a view of about a third of the sky from the carpark at the back of my block of flats). I also have the Celestron 127 SLT which is pretty much the same setup as yours. It's great as a London scope - probably the best truly 'tube portable' scope out there I reckon.

Welcome to the forums, although I am somewhat of a newcomer myself.
