Celestron X-Cel

I have recently tried a couple of the Celestron X-Cels  which I have been very happy with.

The only gripe is that on both 5mm & 7mm when removing the end caps the rubber guards on the twist up caps come unstuck. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you rectify it?

Quite common . I sliced the side of the end cap so it wasn't so tight. Re glued the rubber back on and all was good.

Just a small cut on the dust cap side will be enough

Can't recall for certain . I think I used some of that double tube stuff you mix together . I'd imagine a quality super glue would work well .

I used a match stick to apply small dots of glue to the inside of the rubber.

Read about this "tight cap" problem, so when I bought my Xcel-LXs I gave the caps a bit of a stretch- just used my thumbs.

Never had any problems

Well it's certainly worth a go , that would be better than slitting the cap .

I stuck mine down with a little drop of super glue. Fixed the problem a treat

Never had any issues with my X-cel LX's. But I did stretch the dustcaps just in case. It seems to help.

Every one of my x-cel eyepieces has had this issue. Dab a bit of superglue on carefully and problem solved. For my money, only a minor irritation with what is otherwise a fantastic eyepiece :-)

Did the stretch thingy work astro imp ?

Worked a treat, didn't need any glue but I would have thought Celestron QC would have picked this up.
