Ive modified 20+ canons for people over the the last year or so, dunno about your camera though as I usually stick to canons.........however try       ghonis2.ho8.com, he may be able to help, awesome step by step tutorial on lots of different cameras, just remember to be "static safe" ie use anti static equipment, especially when handling the CMOS and sensitive components...........let me know how you get on!!

Just a gentle reminder gentlemen, there can be no touting for business re modifying Cameras on SGL. Not even subliminal advertising.

There are internet sources for self modification, but it is a tricky operation, and not to be undertaken lightly.

Buy a ready modified 1100D and you are ready to go. It should cost £250-300. Just modifying and getting the D5100 ready for long exposures will cost more than that.

There are several drawbacks with Nikon, no USB BULB (means max 30 sec) with cheaper/older cameras without extra adapters/cables,  smaller bayonett that can create vignetting on some telescopes, stareater feature on older camera that makes small stars dissapear because of internal noise reduction even on RAW files.
