chriswebby
looking to buy telescope for astro photography have nothing at moment mirror or refracting ?
Gareque
A reflector will be cheaper to get a decent quality. Refractors are more mobile but require a much more expensive telescope. The one I am looking at getting at the moment is the Sky-Watcher Explorer 200p. Only costs approx. £400 inc. the EQ5 mount. Seems to be the best around for beginners!
JamesF
Run; do not walk; to a vendor of astronomy literature to the discerning practitioner and there purchase a copy of Steve Richards' "Making Every Photon Count".It will explain huge amounts that you need to know and probably save you a load of money into the bargain. An understanding bank manager is also helpful.James

swag72
Another recommendation here for 'Making Every Photon Count' and read it ......... twice or thrice ..... before spending a single of your hard won ££'s. It will help you understand what you need and why. From there you can make your choice. AP is not something to be rushed into with little idea as the chance of you actually buying the right kit is fairly remote. Why not have a look in the imaging section at what people are posting there. Find some images you can aspire to and see what kit they use. That will give you a good starting point.

jnb
Run; do not walk; to a vendor of astronomy literature to the discerning practitioner and there purchase a copy of Steve Richards' "Making Every Photon Count".Isn't that only available from FLO and Steve's own web site? ie not any generic "vendor of astronomy literature"An understanding bank manager is also helpful. Also either an understanding wife or a knack with creative accounting?Although people say it's expensive it isn't really that much more expensive than other hobbies, most people underestimate what their hobbies cost. JamesF
I'm honestly not sure who sells it. I bought my copy direct from Steve quite some time ago.I agree about the cost of hobbies though. Many are equally as expensive, if not more so.James

JamesM
Hi Chris and welcome to the forum. +1 for "Making Every Photon Count" in my view is essential reading before buying any imaging kit. If you want some idea of what is normally used to image Deep Sky Objects (DSO's) such as galaxies and nebulae, then have a look at the imaging sections to check out members' equipment lists in their signatures. Clear skies and enjoy the forumJames
