You devide the focal length of the telescope by the focal length of the eyepiece to get the magnifation. Say 1000mm focal length scope with 10mm eyepiece would give 100x mag. 20mm would give 50x mag. Hope this helps.

Also bear in mind that an eyepiece in a 2x barlow "effectively" halves the eyepiece size and doubles it's power. Using the example above the 20mm in 2x barlow yields a 10mm eyepiece, which in a 1meter fl scope gives 100x magnification. :)
