NGC 1502

"37" cluster

Recommended Posts

Had a nice observing session this evening, clear in SE Essex.

One of the objects I revisited was the 37 cluster.  I don't mean M37, but NGC 2169  -   http://oneminuteastronomer.com/5194/orion-star-cluster-ngc-2169/

The stars really do form a "37" and is well worth tracking down.   Click on the pic in the link for a better look.

Regards, Ed.

Yep, a lovely sight in a Newt. Not "37" in a refractor though !

Nick.

I do recall visiting that one ,as indeed NGC 1981, a very nice one too. Some nice clusters around there that perhaps just get overlooked with the nebula so popular.  Will watch out more carefully for the 37 shape next time

Thanks Nick, should have mentioned that

The "37" is upside down in a Newt, but mirror reversed in a refractor, SCT or Mak, if used with a diagonal.

I wasn't able to make out the number in my Heritage, but still a nice little cluster.
