I'm yet to find a definitive answer to that one Dave, I guess it depends on how dark your skies are too and what lens you plan on using.

If it's the 18-55mm at 18mm then a good starting point is 30 seconds and ISO 400 or 800, check your image to see if it's too bright or not and if it is drop the exposure length a bit.

Personally I think the shorter the better but then that will leave you with less stars to see.

There are some clouds right now but it seems it will be clear after midnight. I haven't seen a meteorite shower since the 2000s so I am really excited. I hope we have a meteor storm instead of a meteor shower :)
