Tripod Advice

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have just bought a Celestron Travel Scope 70, it is my first Telescope and I am new to looking at the night sky. I did read reviews before hand and felt this was a good entry level cost effective scope for me to start with. I do agree with lots of people that the Tripod is quite poor. So I am looking to purchase a new tripod and wondered if anyone had any advice and any recommendations ? As I am new to this, I am really after a cost effective tripod (not worried about travelling with it) which performs better than the scope that comes with it. I did look at the Celestron AstroMaster Tripod but not sure if this is any good. I would prefer one that is quite tall so you do not have to bed when the scope is looking high into the night sky. So I wondered if anyone had any advice and recommendations ? I have had a look online but there seems to be so many to choose from at hugely different prices!

Many Thanks

Nick

The Skywatcher AZ4 is a nice stable mount.  Comes with aluminium legs for portability (£135) or steel legs which are more solid but quite heavy (£170).

For something more light weight the Horizon 8115 (£80) is a good sturdy photo tripod which would be fine for a small scope.  It's tall as well.
