Calculating RA co-latitudes etc

Recommended Posts

Since coming back to astronomy I have been getting more interested in calculating things like co-latitudes etc.

Of particular interest is working out from my local meridian when a particular object will cross it based on it stated RA on the celestial sphere.

Can anyone give me some pointers to books that will help?

When an object's RA is the same as the 'local sidereal time' it will be on the 'local meridian'. ie. The 'local hour angle' will be 0.

A quick search on 'celestial navigation' should be helpful. An almanac (online or otherwise) will have to be consulted so as to work out your 'local sidereal time'.
