I downloaded it to give it a try, but can't start it up. Reinstalled it just in case, still won't start up.

Unsure if it's a gfx hardware support issue?

If I have this right then that means you need a graphics card to run this release. That will be disappointing to many people who use stellarium who havnt got a graphics card.Does this mean all future updates will be graphics card dependent?

It doesn't mean you have to have a "graphics card". It means that the chipset, be it built-in graphics or a graphics card, must support OpenGL 2+ or better.

I'll have to wait for the 64 bit version as well - any news on an official mobile app yet- would be really good on

 a tablet

There has been an unofficial variant of Stelarium available for some time apparantly but not clear on whether the version you guys have is the one from the makers of the PC version -?

This is a copy and paste from the Google Play store...."  Stellarium mobile is created by two of the original developers of Stellarium, the Desktop version of this famous astronomy and planetarium software."
