That is how I run mine.  I have a 25m long piece of orange extension cable attached to a regulated 15V 7amp adapter inside the house and a tip positive plug the scope end.  I found it best to keep the mains in the house and just have the 12 - 15V (which ever) outside.  It never drops power even at 10 deg below.

One of the Maplin PSU's will do the job FLO also have them.....be careful with the 12 volt types if the drain is to much the voltage will drop, then your tracking will lose its accuracy

5A at 12V or 5A at 240V?

One is 60 Watts the other is 1.2 kW.

The mount spec states:"12V DC 2Amp power-supply required "

This is the peak power draw, and is usually from the rating of components inside, not the actual draw of the motors. Most electronics actually draw 1/3 to 2/3 their peak value. 12V DC at 2A equates to 24 Watts or 0.1A at 240V. You do not need a bench supply to provide this level of current, but it will provide a more stable voltage.

Hmmmm,

Even with both axis on hi-speed slewing the NEQ6pro doesn't pull any more than 2A @13.8v

I use a regulated 12VDC 10A transformer in the observatory. No issues, no drama.

If you do run a 240v external extension it's worthwhile fitting an earth leakage protector - these are cheap and could save you from any problems.

The Voltage range is from 11 - 15 volts for the HEQ and NEQ6 i wouldn't recommend 15 volts as i would recommend 11 volt, nearer the top is is better the 13.8 voltage is about right and should anybody considering running a mains unit 13.8 would be the way to go, if your using 12 volts like Merlin and it work just be aware adding dew heaters, dome control units could start to cause problems....
