The profile pic of me was taken by my mate was it was -18C but that involved sleeping with the equipment and strapping batteries to our chests to keep them warm and stop them freezing, batteries really don't last long at all in the cold.

Never mind the cold, what about the clouds, how anyone can practice astronomy in Ireland is beyond me   I lived in North Co Leitrim for 13 years, almost permanent rain, That said the rain is least of your problems, its the midges its the size of Alsations you need to watch out for . You wait all winter for the weather to get better, then in the summer you can't leave the house for the midges, that the bog for you I suppose....

Just got in with numb feet, hands, and knees ( Dob guy!) from - 9 C here in Quebec. Can't wait to do it again though after viewing splendid views that only come in winter, around here anyway. M42, Beehive, Jupiter - razor sharp, my God how great is this!
