Hi all, been browsing this forum for a couple of weeks. Came about it by accident whilst looking for binocular advice. I'm brand new to astronomy.

Currently own a couple of crappy binos ( 20x 50 and 8 x 30) and a cheap Zennox 20-60 x 60 Spotter. But was astonished this morning ( after nightshift!) to get a great view of jupiter and 3 moons. Could see the cloud bands on jupiter at x 60.

Ditched the idea of binos now and fancy an Acuter Pro Spotting scope. ( I like the feel, portability and durability of spotting scopes - and sky at night gave them a good review)

Hi and welcome to the lounge

it's a hard decision, choosing your first scope, think about

what you want to observe, planets, Deep sky objects or a

little of everything, do a little research here in S G L, then

your hard earned cash won't be wasted on something you

wan't to upgrade in a few months time, there are plenty to

choose from and depending on your budget you can get

yourself a scope you will keep long term, because believe

me you will want to see more, we call it aperture fever here

in S G L.

Good Luck and Clear Sky's

I'm considering the Acuter 100mm spotting scope, ( I like to do a bit of birding and ship watching) it seems to get good reviews. My my main astronomical interest is the moon and planets.

I also like the quick "cool down " of a spotter. Any views?
