Not much other choice if you're a keen Eskimo amateur, even solar obs won't be much better but at least you would have the Sun 24/7 in the Summer.

I must admit I love those particularly cold brutal nights - it's peaceful, no one else is out there (not even the farmers) and as long as I've dressed enough and have a hot drink or ten with me it's great

Have to admit that this isn't as bad as it seems, as mentioned above dew isn't much of a problem (frost can be of course) and it can be VERY clear. I wish it was like this occasionally last winter instead of the wet, miserable and cloudy nights we had for >3 months solid.

The few nights I have had the opportunity to observe with snow on the ground, the skies have been exceptional. It is definitely a good time to observe if you can with stand the temperatures.

Dont understimate the effect of the snow reflecting light upwards. A couple of years ago when we had the heavy snow, if there was the slightest moisture in the air then it was noticeable.

I certainly noticed how snow increases the effect of light pollution by reflecting more light upwards...

I had one of my best nights in the snow.only just made it to the dark site due to the road being icy and nearly packed up after an hour but stuck it out and bagged 13 messiers.now i pretty much always get out if the sky is clear
