Jupiter - getting closer!!!

...the title of this thread refers to both the literal reality of Jove's approach and an article of faith on our part: we think we're getting closer to cracking a really nice image but as everyone knows, this sort of wishfull thinking is fraught with possible disappointments..!!! questionicon.gifbow.gifbow.gifbow.giflol.gif

Anyway, yesterday morning began much like the last few here in Oz - semi-cloudy but with enough clear sky around Jupiter to make it worthwhile hooking up all the ancillary gear and cabling and taking down the rain covers that were on all night.

As fate had it we only captured 4 avi sets before we were clouded out.....as the clouds blotted out the planet we could see what looked like one of the Gallilean moons appearing from behind Jove - haven't bothered ascertaining which one but them's the breaks in these sorts of climates! frown.gif

Red (especially) and green channels were pretty nice but the blue was a bit of a let-down as it often is: if they had been nearer the r&g qualities it would've lifted these images quite noticeably imo but that was not to be... rolling.gif

Still a long way till opposition and we'll be long gone from here by then - but we'll just have to keep on hoping (and wishing! grin.gif) that in the next week to 10 days we might get something that can extend our image outcomes a bit more... help.gif

First an rgb at 110% capture scale followed by an animation of the last 2 avi sets then a red channel followed by its' similar animation... smile.gif

Thanks Michael, Stuart & Timbo - appreciate your generous comments.

We have to hit the sack now to be up in the mornig at 4:30am to suss out the seeing.....took some nice night-time shots of lightening on the horizon, it was flickering non-stop and i don't know what that might portend for tomorrow morning..?

Anyway, I have 4 green channels over the imaging session that should reveal nice detail in the GRS and perhaps push the movement therein a tad more.....but that's for tomorrow arvo at the soonest! :)

Absolutely fantastic Darryl. Pin sharp and just packed with fine detail. Remarkable images especially given the less than favourable altitude down under.

                         Best regards,

                                               Ralph
