Can an SE4 mount take a 6" OTA? Yes-is the answer!

Recommended Posts

One of my members has an Nextar SE4 Mak and was interested in replacing the OTA with a Celestron 6" SCT with dovetail.....

The supplier said it couldn't be done as the mount was "custom designed" for the 4" Mak....bumma.

I asked him to bring it over for "review"......

On the Celestron website the mountings look identical...

It was an easy fix!!

There's a plastic shroud which surrounds the dovetail clamp and profiled to match the OTA. ( yes, the one for the 4" is...you guessed it...marked "4") This is only held in place with two screws...30 seconds later the 6" SCT OTA is in place - majic!!!

The tripod legs that came with my 6SE are a lot stronger than the tripod legs that come with the 4SE, I am pretty sure you will get vibration problems when focusing etc...
