First moon view through the scope tonight!

Looked at the moon with  my etx-125 for the first time tonight.

Amazing. 

I think I may get some maps of the moon and start targeting specific spots if it doesn't blind me.

I had a moon filter on my lenses but it was still very bright.  First I was using a 26mm then went to a 17mm and that was enough.  Eventually went back to the 26mm.

Do I just need to get a better moon filter for future viewing?

If you have other filters try adding them to each other, it might help. At the present phase the Moon is getting very bright, just wait until it is full...

More moon filters or just any filter?

I have a four piece Celestron filter set but I haven't read up on when I should be using them yet.

I prefer to not use a filter for luna viewing, your eye gets used to the brightness of the moon, higher magnification dims it down and gives more detail

I had my first moon view on sunday with my 102mm 'scope. Looks very good even with a small scope.  I'm thinking of buying more eye pieces at some point. At the moment I only have 25mm and 10mm.

I read the easy tip, just put your sunglasses on as an extra filter for a bright moon :-)

The thing with the moon brightness is that your eyes can adjust to it after a while. Having said that, using a filter will help. An adjustable/variable polarizing filter should be the answer for your prayers. It allows you to change density of the moon shine by twisting the filter itself.

Nice to know my eyes will get used to that glare but I'm still going to look into picking up a variable polarizing filter.

I use a moon filter sometimes but I do find it isn't really necessary, However, I do find that when I stop looking at the moon and I move away from the scope I cant see a thing for a couple of seconds
