With camera lenses on dslr bodies to a certain extent yes...

Later version of photoshop have the lens correction tool and there are 3rd party tools like DXO Optics Pro...

Yes is the short answer. Depends on the subject matter is the long answer.

It's something I've been playing with as a pet hobby.. (this and a few other software based fixes - they're closely related).

Take a look at StarTools, might be what you need and pretty cheap compared to PhotoShop or similar (which i think have some lens distortion tools / plugins).

The Canon utility Digital photo Professional that allows you to edit raw files lets you down load profiles for your lenses. At abput 30mb per lens I assume that will have all of the Information required to sort put some of these problems?
