Comet ison hubble picture - what's going on here?

Could it be broken upp parts of the comet tumbling around eachother?

You could be right, but I somehow doubt that. We might be seeing jets emanating from the core. I think it could simply be an artefact of the comet's and the telescopes relative motion during exposure (with breaks when the earth gets in the way). After all, the scope seems to be tracking the galaxies well, not the comet.
