BST Starguider EPs

Recommended Posts

Bought the 5mm and 8mm BST ED Starguider eyepieces. The 5mm eyepiece twists up ok, but the 8mm doesn't, the rubber just comes. I'm not sure whether I should force it, so before I attempt it, could someone please offer advice.

Just tried mine and if the screw down bit is given a firm twist to make sure it is down then to release takes a bit of effort.

More puzzling is the 5mm Explorer and the 25mm Skyguider have the same coloured rings, whereas all the Explorers are different colours.

Thanks for replies.

Its sorted. My wife suggested I put it in a food bag and vacuum sealed it, then warmed it under the hot tap for a while. She tells me its a method she used when a jam jar will not open. Did the trick, came loose a treat.

Good old girl. Bless her.

Eyepiece, dry, safe and usable.

For anyone new buying the BST's, as Rob63 says, a firm grip is needed. I've mentioned elsewhere, that during the build, the eye cap barrel is just a little too tight. Therefore the rubber will appear to just turn. If that's the case, slide the rubber off, then firmly grip the barrel around the eyepiece and rotate  ant-clockwise. Once loosened  work the barrel  a couple of times, then re-apply the rubber hood, and all will be fine.
