Persied colours?

Recommended Posts

I managed to capture at least one Persied on Monday night, after looking at the resulting image I wondered if the colours in the flare trial are indicative of the composition of the Comet material, anyone have any knowledge on the subject i.e. what causes greens and reds to be seen.

You are right. A meteors colour is all to do with its composition. Heres a small list of typical colours and what causes the colours:

  • Orange/yellow (sodium)
  • Yellow (iron)
  • Blue/green (copper)
  • Purple (potassium)
  • Red (silicate)

I saw a very bright one,it was green which means it was mainly composed of copper.
