England's darkest major star party takes place in Northumberland from 30 Oct - 4 Nov. If you have not yet booked your pitch at the Kielder Campsite (email Lynn Henderson on lynnhenderson@blueyonder.co.uk) and want to come along please act quickly. Places are limited - £11 per pitch per night non hook up).

The main day at 18th century Kielder Castle is FREE. There'll be talks by the outstanding Andy Newsam, Professor of Astronomy Education and Engagement at Liverpool John Moores University, together with the lowdown on Comet Ison, eclipse chasing and a few more. Vendors will include (amongst others) Ian King Imaging, Green Witch, Astrodevelopments and Astronomica.

Kielder is include in a 400 square mile bid to create Europe's largest Dark Sky Park in Northumberland. We may know the outcome by the time of the star party, so fingers' crossed.

Any questions please pm me.

Cheers

Richard

Here's a follow up to Kielder Autumn 2013 in images where most nights were clear despite weather forecast for the week!

All taken using a standard  Pentax K5 with  Pentax 12-24mm f4 DA ED AL IF Lens at f4.5 and 13-15 sec exposures at either 3200iso ...or 6400iso.

Next year's event:  likely to be 22 - 27 October 2014.

Don't forget the spring event before that 25 Feb to March 2014.  Places are filling up for that - email lynnhenderson@blueyonder.co.uk

We expect a decision on whether Northumberland - including Kielder - will become's Europe's biggest dark park early December.
