Attaching a CCD to a camera lens

Recommended Posts

You need to get a filter in there as well. There's the Geoptik adapter but to change filters you need to take off lens or camera. Gerd Neumann does a camera to CCD slide drawer, which seems like a good idea.

Pentax cameras and hence lenses use a 45mm back focus so you need extension tubes to make up that distance. It can be a little less as the lenses can be focussed "closer" than infinity - but not further.

It may be best to get around 45 - 45.5 mm of back focus. 55mm is T lens back focus.

Gina has done it. Have a look at one of her threads.

Cross posted :D - I was busy and took some time to complete my last post. And yes, I have indeed done it, in fact I'm working on a new widefield imaging rig ATM that uses astro CCD cameras and Pentax type lenses.

Thanks all. I've seen that Geoptik Olly, and I have read that changing filters can be a bit of a pain! :). Actually, after looking at the Geoptik adapter another thought occurs to me.

The Geoptik has a 1/4" tripod thread. Other than that, how would I go about mounting a lens/CCD to um, a mount? :). Gina, could you point me to your thread, I've tried searching for it to no avail ;)

OK here's the list. I should say though that I have had several goes at this before I found a working solution. Hopefully, this may stop others from wasting their time. There is one thread which I can't seem to find that showed the mounting method that was really effective. This clamped the filter wheel against an aluminium plate in turn attached to the mounting plate with brackets. This same method was used in the dual mounting rig though.

  2. This is a dual imaging system - one camera using filter wheel and the other a manual filter holder - http://stargazerslou...al-imaging-rig/
  3. My latest widefield project - a triple imaging rig with no less than three cameras and lenses - http://stargazerslou...le-imaging-rig/http://stargazerslou...th-camera-lens/
