Sunspot groups AR1787, AR1785 & AR1784 are prominent in this image of the rising Sun behind the James Thomson monument near Kelso & Ednam.

James Thomson was a poet & dramatist born in the village of Ednam in 1700 and perhaps best know for writing the words of 'Rule Britannia'.

Thanks for feedback!

Last night & this morning we've had some very dense haze making shots like this possible....

Of course comes with the usual warning ...avoid looking at the Sun directly but just exercise some common sense, much depends on thickness of haze, how low the Sun is.... and use live view where possible rather than your eye at the viewfinder when focusing/composing shot.

If the Sun looks too bright in the camera live view LCD display with aperture fully closed then it's too bright ...leave it for another time!

Closing the lens fully before starting gives your camera sensor some protection and keeps relatively close subjects within reasonable focus, in this case the monument is approx. 1km away.

Remember.... the only 100% safe way is with a filter ....otherwise be very careful!
