Eyepiece holder tip

Recommended Posts

Actually this is apparently quite an old tip this but always worth pointing things out again.

I have replaced the metal screws in screw type adaptors (Ie non compression type) for EP's with nylon screws. I find they hold them just as well as thier metal counterparts but they don't damage the barrels of EP's/diagonals etc.

The ones I got were quite long but I used a high speed cutting tool (Dremel type thing) to shorten them, do this slowly so as not to overheat the nylon.

I can't remember the cost but it wasn't very much nor can I remember where I got them from. I am hoping that someone might be able to fill in that information for me/us.

Found it http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/45544-source-for-nylon-thumbscrews/

Its all personal preference but I think its a good idea for those using this kind of adaptor.

Faulksy,

Do you know if they are the same size as the screws in finder holders. I where short sleeve shirts most of the time here and I have broken the ends off about 4 of mine with them catching on the sleeves. I could do with a couple of packs of them.

Alan.
