The Es 20mm on abs has exactly the sane photos as the ebay add had so nice £120 profit there or the seller hasnt sent it ;)

Ebay is decent for buying but its too expensive to sell on there for me.by the time you add ebay and paypal fees £100 becomes £85

Well got to say I feel I have done OK with a scope off ebay, skywatcher skyliner 200p dob, telrad, upgraded bearings and trust races, slomo on the focuser and a bhatinov mask along with the usual 25 and 10mm es, he also gave me a 4mm and 20mm as he had better ones (yes they are cheap ones, but hey, I didnt have any to start with).

I paid £212 for th elot.

Ending the same day though was the same scope, again 2nd hand with nothing extra, just what you would get with a new scope and it sold at £280 - go figure... They are £279 at FLO (I think) and you can get a new one on Ebay for £249. Some people are just lazy or just dont think to check and pay the price for it.

Just sold something (non-astronomical) on Ebay. Bought it for £15 - The things are now "unavailable". Current U.S. prices are £90 -120(!), so I priced it at minimum bid £30. I mentioned it's rarity, got one bid almost immediately... and no more. I sense the person had a genuine interest in the item. But maybe put it straight onto the American market? I LOST a "classic" analogue guitar effects unit for a £16 bid. I sense the purchaser had absolutely *no* idea what the thing did... Ebay is very much "luck of the draw"? :icon_neutral:

I blame Lorne "666" Spicer and her book: Make-a-fortune-reselling-car-boot-old-tat on Ebay! :D

But such is the entirety of Daytime TV - Excluding adverts for Online Gambling & Payday Loans?

Because they're idiots. That's why.

Yes and no.

All finacial markets work in the same way, it's the herd mentallity.

People over react, jump over one n other to get the best price, it's a natural reaction that we find hard to control.

I don't like offering payment on collection when selling. Better to go via Paypal.

Safe for buyer and seller, no wads of cash and no quibbling and trying to renegotiate the price at the last minute.

If someone pays via paypal then collects, you cannot provide proof of deliver and you are open to a false paypal claim which could be very hard to go in your favour as you cant prove delivery.

It says paypal under "payments". maybe he's changed it?

Yes it has been changed, it was "bank transfer before" still not right through, same seller offering other items with bank transfer in listing, dubious feedback left yesterday also.

My comment was regarding asking the question to see if they respond negatively, as someone who has hacked an account probably wouldn't want to meet in person - and are likely to be in another country.

You can always then pay by Paypal if it all seems legit.

I know I had originally posted this thread due to someone over paying for a scope on ebay but I can't help but think there is something a miss with this seller or the scope he is selling http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Celestron-Omni-XLT-120-Telescope-OTA/141068224242?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D17235%26meid%3D1439546863597224724%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D8045%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D271278652904%26 If anyone is in the market for a 5" frak it might just pay to steer clear of this listing even if you were prepared to pay the inflated starting price.

I started this thread back in June as I was aware the scope had been listed and on occasion sold several times previously but as far as I am aware there has never been any feedback received for an OMNI 120 XLT sold by this seller yet they have yet again another one for sale. Surely this must be a scam? It must be costing the seller a fortune in listing fees?

It gets worse... In non-astro field, the last two items I recently sold, went for canonical 99 pee!

Once m'bus fare, packing efforts, ebay / paypal charges are factored in, a significant LOSS. :p

Doubt purchasers had much idea what they were buying? But my feedback is always effusive!

Like Norman Clegg (Last of the Summer Wine) I'm fearful of the "Auntie Wainrights" o't'world? ;)

A few people I know know I am a IT Wiz fixing things and I am constantly asked, however when it comes to these people to buy IT stuff they suddenly become IT experts and buy overpriced rubbish, then come to me to fix things because they don't work. Arhhhhh!

The same could be said for the dumb on ebay, last year I brought a wireless 2.4Ghz camera to put into the chicken house. The seller had approx 30 of them all on auction all ending around the same time on a Sunday evening. They all had a starting price of £50 and NO bids 30mins before the auction ends. I put my bid on one for £50 and expected it would win by default, but no some crazy twonk outbid me in the last few seconds to win. So what was crazy well there was no other bids on any of the others still so this guy paid more by outbidding me than instead of bidding on the exact same camera that was finishing 2 mins later or any of the others. Twonk. Anyway I just put my £50 bid on the next camera and won.

Back to the original post alot of people are just not aware of what the actual retail price is of the item they are bidding for. Someone once told me they had a bargain on ebay and got a 2nd hand xbox game for 99p plus P&P (£45) and were over the moon. I then told him he was a mug as the game was brand new for £10 in Games Station but he was adamant he had a bargain as in his eye 99p was cheaper then £10 (even though he had paid £45 for P&P).
