did not see the sun yesterday but a monster visible today between showers

Is this still the same one I spotted yesterday on the western limb?

I think it is the same one as GONG shows a similar appearance since yesterday. Visible occasionally through cloud gaps and gale force wind, another limb "hot spot" underway at the last sighting at 12.45pm.

GOES X-ray's showing that there was a great big X class solar flare in the early hours today.

i got all of 5 mins with it before having to go out

Steve thanks for the heads up. Just read your post so grabbed the PST before the Sun went behind the clouds. As you say a 'huge' prom and together with the many sunspots the Sun is certainly active.

managed 10mins myself there are loads of proms and some good AR's and the HUGE prom as well

my adaptors are on their way back from being anodised so I am using the PST as well

I don't think I can image it with the DMK due to focus issues and the wind is blowing thing about a bit as well

There is a SOHO image up on www.spaceweather.com site and brief write up - describing it as a class X1.7 erruption and the strongest of the year so far.

The huge prom lifted off late this afternoon, Gong showed it on the 90 frame animation, it went right off their field of view.

I did see that animation, mighty impressive.

Also 3 X class flares in the last 24 hours, could be interesting as 1748 turns towards us.
